HDD noise

My self-made computer is running just fine. On occasion though the HDD makes a pretty loud/consistent reading noise. Like that slurping through a straw noise.

I have one of those newer WD Caviar Black 600 GB. It currently has 356 GB used.

I can understand if it does this while scanning, but sometimes it'll just go on and on while I'm hardly surfing the net. please help

windows vista home premium 64
service pack 1
4 gigs ram
core 2 duo e8500 3.16 GHz

Re: HDD noise

I tried to uncheck the wirte cache check box but it just goes back to checked. It says in the description that the change is not supported.

Where do I go for the shadow copy setting? I might reformat my computer again. If there's something I could do to make sure it stops making that annoying sound, please let me know.
