[SOLVED] unable to access files on slave drive
i am on a dell dimension running xp sp3. my friends hard drive became corrupt (hal.dll missing). it was recomended that we hook it up to another computer (mine) as a slave drive. her hard drive is running xp . i have done that and i am unable to see much more than just about 1GB of system files. am i missing something or were all the files probably lost? i have never run more than one hard drive before and i am unshure what to expect.

Re: unable to access files on slave drive
You will need to take ownership of the files since the security was set for another group of users.... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/308421

Re: unable to access files on slave drive
Whatever was on there has been erased. Drive E: 99% free space.
How much info was on there before? You're likely going to have to get some file recovery software and run that to retrieve the files. This is basically the best one available: http://www.runtime.org/data-recovery-software.htm

Re: [SOLVED] unable to access files on slave drive
A file can only be recovered if it hasn't been overwritten.
To recover those files, the drive (her drive) has to be setup as a slave drive. If that's her only hard drive, she won't be able to recover the files.
