Hard Drive is rapidly losing space!

My hard drive is 580 GB. I have only taken up 80, but it says only 421 GB are remaining. This number is rapidly going down, as I had 426GB earlier today and installed nothing. Please help!

Re: Hard Drive is rapidly losing space!

How new is the hard drive? The drive could be showing signs of failure. You could test it by going to the manufacture's web site and downloading the diagnostic tool.

Re: Hard Drive is rapidly losing space!

I'd really rather not... It's randomly losing space as if files are being added when they're not. Has this happened before.?

Re: Hard Drive is rapidly losing space!

I figured it out. It was just system restore. The reason clearing it didn't work before was because I was in the middle of a defrag. Vista handles things so much differently than XP. I remember when I thought all 4 of my gigs were being used, ;).

Thanks much. Problem solved. *sticks thumbs up*

Re: Hard Drive is rapidly losing space!

On vista, restore points and Volume Shadow Copy usually chew up a lot of space. Defrag will throw some weird numbers while it is shuffling stuff around...
