Help me please :@

i have found an old hdd (ide) and want to transfer the data onto one of my laptops. so i thought if i unscrewd my external hardrive i have and take out the adapter and then connect the old hardrive to the addaptor and then use the usb to the laptop and transfer it. so i took it all out and then realised it was sata connection. so now im looking on ebay to find a connector that will connect to my hdd (ide) then connect to the adaptor(sata) so i can then transfer it over using the usb. firstly will this work? and secondly can someone send me a link to an adaptor please !
