HD103UJ SAMUSUNG 1TB Click of Death?
Hello,
I got this 1TB samusung drive on June 20th to use it as a external backup disk, its not even a month old and its clicking and not reading. I don't know if its the click of death of not as Ive never had this happen to me before. I can hear the drive sppinning up and it starts clicking, after a while it stops for a few seconds and then clicks again. It keeps doing that and it eventually stops and windows Prompts up saying that I need to format the drive in order to use it... Problem is its already formatted and its got like 900GB worht of data in it... Did the drive die? Please Help... I don't want to lose all my data. |

Sounds like a physical failure, what kind of enclosure is the drive in? Try removing it from the enclosure and mount it as an internal drive in a desktop and see if it is recognized by BIOS.

Re: HD103UJ SAMUSUNG 1TB Click of Death?
Its in a ventilated External Case. I tried taking it off and plugging it directly into the desktop and it still clicks. Bios detects my other two drives but it hangs trying to detect this drive. I waited 5 minutes and it was still clicking away and bios still trying to detect it.
Thanks for the reply |

Sounds like a head or preamp failure. If the data is critical, pro recovery is needed, otherwise RMA it to Samsung under Warranty

Re: HD103UJ SAMUSUNG 1TB Click of Death?
Samsung has gotta be the worst Hard Drive company ever...This is the second drive of theirs that failed with me under a month of usage... The other one was a 500GB that died in 2 weeks...
I thought the first time was just bad luck but now i see that they are crap. Warning for everyone else. NEVER BUY A SAMSUNG DRIVE. STICK TO SEAGATE AND WD... I'm really pissed now... my total data loss with samsung now accumulates to 1.5tb......... |
