Roll Eyes Second Hard drive "unplugged"

I decided to install a second hard drive on a Del Dimension 3100.I cloned the original hard drive - a Western Digital 1600 JS model - 160 GB and installed a new WD 5000...Caviar Blue model- 500 GB. I was warned by the imaging program , Acronis Ture Image, I would have to remove the original drive to boot. This was initially true.
There is no eay way I know of making Sata drives master and slave respectively. I tried swapping the letter names of the drives. Windows does not permit thi9s in Disc Management.

I read an article about changing drive names in a Microsoft Support article. I was warned only to swap names if the system itself had accidentally configured the change. Foolishly, I ignored this devise and manually swithced letters in the Registry. My system was rendered unbootable. With lu7ck I was able to use a utility , Spotmau Power Suite or similar name to reboot and restore my damaged system. By the way, the "secure" back ups of ATI (see above) were corrupted and useless. NOW MY STSYTEM IS RUNNING OFF THE NEW , LARGER HARD DRIVE. THAT'S GOOD. the original drive is not detected in my system after booting. A scan by a utility called Driver Detective listed the original drIve but as "unplugged". I tried using Windows Add hardware. No provision made for manually adding a hard drive.

i'VE CHECKED CONNECTIONS. i HAVE TWO SERIAL CONNECTORS ON MY MOTHERBOARD. fOR SOME STRANGE REASON THE ORIGINAL COONECTION PRONG IS NO LONGER FUNCTIONING. i'VE CHECKED BY SWITCHING CABLES AND CONNECTION POINTS FOR BOTH DRIVES.

No apparent relevance to my concern I believe: Uner "Human Interface Devices" in Device Manager the following driver is yellow flagged- "HID Non- user Input (KB911895). I double clicked on this and I believe its some type of video driver. Any help that can be provided would be greatly appreciated.
