I have just built a pc heres a list of components:
New Hardware: M3N78-VM ASUS motherboard AMD Athlon X2 64 Socket AM2+ Radeon ATI HD 4670 Video Card KHX8500AD2/2G (Kingston Hyper X DDR2) RAM Single 2 Gig stick Old Hardware: Power Supply 500w Maxtor 60gig ATA Hard drive (which has sp3 and windows XP freshly installed and still works in my older system) The system boots and gets through POST. Then the message: We apologize for the inconvenience , but windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might of caused this. (then it goes on about what to do with the following options) -Safe mode -Safe mode with networking -Safe mode with command prompt -Last known good configuration(your most recent settings that worked) -Start windows normally appears and then it reboots on every option selected. Here are somethings we have already tried: RAM Timings: 7-7-7-20 Cleared CMOS Tried other hardrives with same result When tried to format a hardrive on the system got BSOD ***STOP:0X0000007E (0XC0000005, 0XF76B60BF,0XF7B02208,0XF7B01F08) *** pci.sys_Adress F76B60BF base at F76AF000, Date Stamp 3b7d855c Tried exchanging power supplies Tried known good RAM Tried alternative OS (PC-BSD) Installed Motherboard Drivers Tried Running the system using on board video etc. I'm honestly out of Ideas and a little frustrated I just built a PC with the same specs and it worked perfectly the first time I booted it. Even with my older ATA 120gig Hard Drive. I just don't understand why the Hard Drive seems to work perfectly on the older system but then doesn't work at all on the newer one. I't makes me believe there's some kind of config problem, but I've just exhausted everything I know to try. If anyone has ANY IDEAS please let me know. |

Re: New pc reboot loop
Was the windows on the 60GB drive, that works in another system, installed in that other system?
If so, you need to do a repair install. http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

Re: New pc reboot loop
I can't get far enough into the intsallation of windows to do a repair install. The blue windows xp setup screen comes up then it starts loading files and then says at the bottom starting windows, and then it bsod's. Besides I put a fresh install of windows xp and sp3 on it while it was in the other system, so I don't understand why when I put it in the new system it doesn't boot to windows..*sigh*

Re: New pc reboot loop
When windows is installed, it builds the Hardware Abstraction layer that is specific to the base system ( proc/chipset etc ) that it was installed in - move it to a different MB/proc combo and unless it isthe same or very close, then Windows is unable to communicate with the hardware at the lowest levels. Even at low levels, windows talks to the hardware thru it's own interfaces, often 'filtering' things. For example windows does not allow an app to directly access HDs thru their interrupt - which is why a lot of low level tools will only run through DOS. Best bet would be to zero wipe the drive with Killdisk or dban, then do a fresh install in the PC you want to run it in.

Re: New pc reboot loop
Does your install disk have sp3 on the install, or are you installing XP or XP with SP1 and then applying SP3 You will need a minimum of SP2 on the install disk to support PCI-E

Re: New pc reboot loop
You could also use nlite to slipstream your SP3 into XP and then burn it back as a new disk. http://www.windowsnetworking.com/art...ice-Packs.html
