Re: Any good free data recovery software ? please help ?

If you formatted the drive - the chances of recovering any data is slim to none. If you only deleted the data and emptied the recycle bin - the odds could be good. But since you actually formatted the drive - it's not looking good.

Most software allows you to see what it can recover before actually purchasing it. There are some free ones out there - but they wouldn't be as a good as the other ones.

I've heard some good things about Recuva - it's free.

Re: Any good free data recovery software ? please help ?

if it's data you really want, really need.

don't mess around.

after you reformatted, did you install an OS?

or is the drive a blank NTFS or ext2 or whatever?

recovery is possible, but it will require a sector by sector scan instead of an "undelete" kind of utility. i don't know if there is free software out there that will do it.

seriously, if you REALLY need the data, have someone recover it professionally.

Also - if this is the computer that you need data off of - STOP using this PC! While you use the PC - you are making the already slim chance of recovery smaller and smaller.

Thanks for all these posts ..i tried some of the recovery tools ..but most of them ask us to buy their software to save recovered files. Does anybody know of complete free software which can do it all ? thanks

Have you "lost" a hard drive, partition or files in your computer?

Recovery tools are like anything else, you get what you pay for. r-Studio is about 50.00 for the single OS version and handles more file types for recovery than any freeware is going to.

I've used Recuva before, and it worked well enough. Advanced File Recovery arguably works the best and it costs about $40. But you can download its trial for free. And you can work directly with different media types: hard drives, memory sticks, digital camera memory cards, and others.
