Maxtor - Lost directory structure when swapping two drives

Strange one here:

I have 2 Maxtor OneTouch 4 Plus 500G NTFS drives (Drive A and Drive B).

I recently shut down my computer (XP), unplugged Drive A, then plugged in Drive B, then turned my computer back on.

Now my computer sees the directory of the Drive A when looking at Drive B. When I try Drive B on a different computer, the second computer sees the drive letter, but does not think it has permission to see it.

When I access Drive B on the original computer, I can access directories common to both drives, such as drivers, and access those files. When I try to access directories unique to Drive A when looking at Drive B, it says file or directory is corrupt or unreadable (obviously, as they do not exist).

I rand the Maxtor test drive utility, and it says it is functioning just fine.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Maxtor - Lost directory structure when swapping two drives

Update on this: I used r-studio to have a peek at Dribe B, and it shows all of the folders and files that are on the drive. It also shows the "ghost" folders and files from Drive A. Where there are two folders with the same name, such as "movies", they are both listed.

I suppose the option would be to pull everything real over to another drive, reformat, then put it back, but that just sounds painful. Ideally, I find a way to resolve the schitzophrenic state and have the drive remember it's true structure.

Any ideas? :)

If you want your data, best bet is to get it safe first, then play with the drive.

Yeah, thinking that. Any ideas on why it lost its structure, and how to get it back?

Well I would say delayed write except you shut the PC down, so that kind of rules that out...
