My Asus P5ND Bios refuses to detect my new Western Digital 1TB SATA drive.
Attempted so far: Tried different SATA ports (Mobo has 4) Tried different Power cables and SATA cables Checked the BIOS settings for SATA IDE (all enabled) and RAID (all disabled). I'm not trying to set up raid, just a normal standalone SATA drive. Flashed the BIOS to the latest version (1101) Tried updating the chipset driver to version 15.24. This caused XP to stop loading and led to a 12-hour spiral of doom yesterday. Several failed re-installs and two clean installs later, XP is up and running, and reads my other SATA drives (2 HDD, 1 optical). Also updated XP to SP3. But neither BIOS nor XP will read the 1 TB drive. RIG: Intel Quad core Q6600, 2GB DDR2 ASUS P5ND MoBo Geforce 8800GT XP Pro SP2 (just updated to SP3 but that didn't help) Two existing hard drives, both WDC 500 GB SATA New (undetected) HDD: WDC Caviar Green 1 TB Two LiteOn optical drives, one IDE DVD-ROM and one SATA DVDRW Any help would be deeply appreciated! Thanks! |

Re: ASUS P5ND BIOS won't detect new 1TB SATA HDD
you aint gonna like this fix
take your windows XP disk and then add the sp-3 into the disk and then do a re-install use nlite to intergrate them (free) there are all kinds of using nlite to make sp-3 cd guides found in a google and or youtube search for some reason the adding of sp-3 after the install does not have the same level of capability as an install with sp-3 in it to begin with

Re: ASUS P5ND BIOS won't detect new 1TB SATA HDD
unplug one of the working drives and give the 1TB drive that sata location on the motherboard and also swap sata data cables with a known working drive
your board has plenty of users with 1TB drives use CPU-Z (free) to verify your bios is infact updated for sure ! I would also clear the cmos to be sure it updated !!!!!!!!!!!!! if you dont need to reset the date and time in the bios .....then you didnt accomplish a successful bios flash!

Re: ASUS P5ND BIOS won't detect new 1TB SATA HDD
Thanks, Linderman!
I did try swapping the SATA ports as well as SATA and power cables with the existing working drives. Each time, the port that the new drive was connected to would show up as "None" during the IDE detection process, while the other ports showed up just fine. Thanks for the SP3 and nLite tip. I'll also check my BIOS version with CPU-Z. I can't say I feel the drive spinning/clicking. It might just be DOA, especially if others with my board are successfully using 1TB drives. |

Re: ASUS P5ND BIOS won't detect new 1TB SATA HDD
if you are booting the computer and you cant feel any vibration when the drive is powered up and being held in your hand during the boot process ..........then you for SURE have a DOA drivew without question, even if the bios doesnt want to play nice with a drive the drives motor & platters should be spinning
