OS: Windows Vista x64 - SP2

How to move OS from old to new hdd?

Here's my current computer set-up:

Seagate Barracuda 250gig w/ Vista-64bit on one big partition
Samsung Spinpoint 1TB w/ nothing on one big partition

I would like to go to:

Samsung Spinpoint 1TB w/ Vista-64, Vista-32, and Ubuntu Studio
Seagate Barracuda storing music and other files

I have DVDs for each of the OS's.

Question:
1. My Vista-64bit is the "Systems Builder" version aka you can only install it on one computer at a time. How can I move this to the second hard drive? Or am I stuck on the original 250gig drive?

2. In what order should I do everything?

Thanks for the help, I'm still pretty new to this and am not quite sure how to start.

Re: How to move OS from old to new hdd?

Can I simply install my Vista copy onto the second hard drive, or will Windows Update or something slam me?

IMO, it would be better to keep the os on the smaller drive and use the larger drive for storage.

Is the vista 32 bit a full retail version? You can go to the harddrive manufacturers website and get a utility that will transfer your os to a new drive. In addition, install order should not make a difference. You can always use easybcd http://neosmart.net/dl.php?id=1 to fix your bootmanager.

because of your first quesiton the following is something to consider.

if it is a system builders version and its already been used to install on another computer then you can never use it again, even if you removed it from the original comptuer.

In addtion you can never install a system builders version on a computer that already had an operating system installed on it.
