slow folder browsing

hello,

i've recently build a new pc and i have the following problem.

when i browse through my folders each folder takes about a second to open...

so i double click and then for about one second the cursor turns to the hourglass bofore opening the folder.

i have a:

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 ST31500341AS, 1.5TB

thx in advance.

PS: i can't install the latest drivers because those will cause bsod's (its a nvidia motherboard and that driver is known to give bsod's)

Re: slow folder browsing

MAJOR EDIT:

sorry for my language but OMFG *** WTH
i thought it had something to do with audio so i also tried with a video and that also worked. then i went to device manager to disable the audio card... that also worked.
so then i was wondering what could be the problem. and the only sound involved when browsing is the little tinywiny "click" you hear when opening the folder. sooo... i disabled the sound for that click and its working so far...-.-'

now lets hope it stays that way.

Re: slow folder browsing

(Right way) clean you temp folder/temp internet folders. SCAN YOUR HARD DRIVE FOR BAD SECTORS. check for recently installed programs that might be causing it, uninstall it and see if it works, there a few programs out there that slows down folder browsing, one category is virus scanners

(guesses) select "do not cache thumbnail" in folder options, I doubt this will work, but worth a try, if none of that works

(2nd try) try ccleaner run all scan/cleans and see if that work, if all else fails, if you have a spare hard drive, do a clean windows install to isolate hardware possibilities, if that the case, I'm afraid you'll have to clean out your other hard drive and install new windows minus the program/files causing your problem

Re: slow folder browsing

@ justbigbs: thanks for the tips but i got it working now, check the "MAJOR EDIT" in my previous post.

somehow the audio card was slowing the browsing down. because when the folder opened (after a second) thats when i heard the click and not the moment when i double clicked the folder.

bit i got it working now
