[SOLVED] WD5000AAKB PATA Drive Problems
Ive just bought the WD5000AAKB pata drive and was hoping to use it as a 3rd hard drive along with my two sata drives.
Problem is I cant get this drive to do anything. It shows in my device manager and in the bios but not in My Computer. So I used the windows disc to attempt to format it but when I try to assign a partition it does nothing just kicks me back to the partition page and still reads as unpartitioned. When I switched the jumpers from cable select to master the drive size went from 411265 to 7065 in the windows partition thing??? And still I cant partition it. ive even tried disabling all other drives in my system except that one and the cd rom drive still no luck. Cursing at it also didnt help just made me feel alittle better. Im using and A8V mother board with 2 wd sata drives but as I stated above I disabled those with no success so now im just stumbed. Im starting to think its a bad drive but id figured Id ask the pros for a second opinion before I send it back. Last edited by eberg221; 07-01-2009 at 03:53 PM. |

Re: WD5000AAKB PATA Drive Problems
Partition and format through disk management. Is the drive the only drive on that cable? If so then on WD the jumper should be removed for master/no slave setting, if another drive is on the cable, make sure it is jumpered to slave.

Re: WD5000AAKB PATA Drive Problems
You mean the Disk Managment under admin tools in the control panel? The Drive doesnt show on there but its still in the device manager. And yes this is the only drive on this cable and its set to master. Im leaning towards a bios thing or a bad drive.

Re: WD5000AAKB PATA Drive Problems
Just to make sure you undertand what my team mate Raptor_Pa told you....the drive if alone on the ribbon cable should have ALL JUMPERS REMOVED and on the end of the ribbon cable. Is this the way it is set up?

Re: WD5000AAKB PATA Drive Problems
Yea sorry thats the way its set up. I found it in the disk manager I had to scroll up
duh lol. Anyways when I hit initialize it gives me like 6 errors in the event log that all say "The driver detected a controller error on \Device\Harddisk0\D."
