Re: is my hard disk failing?

I doubt if the hd is that bad! If it was, you would be loosing most everything. If it finally boots, that shows it is delivering the data but something is wasting the processors cycles!
Have you cleaned out the TEMP FILES? ETC? Which browser are you running? IE? If so, Open IE, go to tools, internet options, delete "Cookies" Temp files" history" .
Reboot and see if that helped any. Usually it will if it hasn't been done lately as temp files really add up and take time to load them.
Run a good Malware program. Such as , MBAM. (MalwareBytes Anti Malware)
You can download the free one which is very good!
Post back the results and maybe someone that has more knowledge than I will take you further. If Judy sees this, She can do a fantastic job of cleaning it up for you as she did for me!
Good luck

Re: is my hard disk failing?

leave the registry alone
cleaning most of the time causes more problems than it fixes

turn off the auto reboot
control panel /system/advanced/startup and recovery settings
then untick the auto reboot box
post any bsod error messages the computer freezes on in full

what does the bios list your cpu temp and 12v line voltages as
what power supply
brand
model
wattage

run
sfc /scannow
