Sata hard drive not detected
Hello, again.
The hard drive that came with my computer has failed but I want to attempt to retrieve my old information from it. I bought a new 1TB hard drive and put it in the second port in the computer (dell dimension e520). When I connected the SATA cable that came with the drive to the motherboard, the computer would not detect it. I removed the old drive and put the new one in it's place - I connected the new one to the old SATA cable and power plug the first drive used and now the new one works fine. I tried to putting the old hard drive in the second port and connect it to the motherboard but even the old drive isn't being detected. I thought the problem might be with the SATA cable that came with the new drive so I bought a new cable. Even the new cable won't work. Can someone tell me what the problem might be? I don't think the old drive is causing it as I have tried both the new and old one and both were not detected when I connected them to the motherboard. |
