OS: winxp service pack3


third master hard drive error

The problem of my pc,when i turn it on ,it appears a messages "third master hard drive error"press F1 to resume.In the Bios settings the SATA1 not detected,even the serial number of the hard disk wo'nt appear in the Bios.I replace already a SATA cable but still not working.My hard drive is western digital 160 gb SATA.processor is AMD athlon 64x2 5200+,ecs blackseries 780gm motherboard,2gb DDR3 RAM.Is it possible that my hard drive is defective?

Try this bootable diagnostic from Western Digital: http://support.wdc.com/product/downl...vel1=6&lang=en

If it doesn't recognize the drive - then either the drive is dead or there's a problem with your motherboard.
