Will This Hard Drive Work On My PC
I plan on upgrading my hard drive from a Seagate 120GB ATA Hard Drive to this:
http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...IN#detailspecs I will also be using a PCI SATA Card to convert my motherboard from ATA to SATA. I need to know if this drive will work on my computer SPECS: Intel Pentium 4 2.66GHZ 512KB L2 Cache 533MHZ FSB Processor Sapphire ATI Radeon X1650 Pro 512MB DDR2 AGP 8X Graphics Card Seagate Barricuda 120GB Ultra ATA Hard Drive with 8MB Cache PNY Optima 1.5GB DDR BFG TECH GS SERIES 550WATT ATX POWER SUPPLY ATX Form Factor Case Before I make the upgrade I want to make sure the hard drive works with my system. Would there be a limit to how much capacity my computer can handle. Would 1TB be too much for my PC? HELP PLEASE!!!! THANX!!!!!!! |

Re: Will This Hard Drive Work On My PC
Win XP (original had a limit of around 136 gigs I think but that limit was taken off with Win XP SP1. The limit should be taken off. I personally would go for 2 500gb HDD fro backing purposes (incase a drive can't boot and simple backups). Since this HDD is so ridiculously cheap, I'm going to have to say go for it. Just a couple more questions.
Whats the PCI Sata you're using? Are you running Win XP or Win XP SP2 or Sp3? |

Re: Will This Hard Drive Work On My PC
I think this Card looks good. Do not use the drivers that come with the CD. All of the reviews say to use the latest drivers from the website here
http://www.sabrent.com/#section=Driv...Name=&itemID=0 Sabrent RAID Native Serial ATA (SATA-150) 4 Ports Low Profile PCI Controller Host Card Adapter $30 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...=ITD&body=MAIN I was think that instead of buying a Sata card you could start upgrading your computer and get a new motherboard that supports all of your existing stuff and goes up to Core 2 quad. It would work better than a sata card and probably save you money in the long run. |

Re: Will This Hard Drive Work On My PC
I'm not too sure. I've been reading a couple reviews and some people have been trouble accessing the full 1 tb drive.
another 500gb drive should be fine and would probably have the best chance at working. You could this HDD and it should work well with the SATA PCI card Western Digital Caviar SE16 500GB Hard Drive - 7200, 16MB, SATA-300, OEM $60 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applicati...5126&CatId=139 |
