my computer wont let me boot xp off of my harddrive

Ive installed windows Xp professional and it wont boot from the harddrive to finish the install and i cant get it to install on any other harddrives

Maybe the DVD/CD is bad? Is it a DVD and all you have is CD drives?

You are not giving us much to work with. you need to give more info.
If the Xp installation goes through the first part ( cd installation) then you can take it that the HD is good, otherwise Xp would refuse to load. It then reboots from HD. At this stage don't touch anything , let it work .

if the hard drive is sata set it to be seen as ide in the bios

I solved that problem but now it isnt even detecting my maxtor 120 gb ide hdd so I had to use a stupid 10 gb.... how do i get it to detect it... my Os is on a quantum fireball 6 gb

Motherboard is a winfast nf4sk8aa (either 8krs or 8ekrs... i dont remember) but i had some bios troubles at one point with it not letting me into the bios but i fixed that with switching it from sli mode to normal mode (i dont know why that worked but it did) and it let me into the bios

recheck the jumper on the maxtor

if it is not seen in the bios it is usually the jumper or the data cable
