really noisy maxtor 120gb sata hdd
hi ppl,
i am good friends in real life with "biddlyboobaa" and i recently got off him a maxtor 120gb sata hdd it is really noisy its hard to describe but it kinda grinds and whines when its being accessed by my pc i have already defragmented it and ran a hard drive test tool which it passed and for those of you who read biddlyboobaa's thread about his broken hdd pcb he mentions that this 120gb drive was having read problems - it works absolutly fine for me i just need to make it quiter cause it really pee's me off having a phenom powered quad core pc which makes aload of hdd noise!!!! =[ so yea hopefully someone will kno what 2 do P.S. i already tried putting it in a freezer bag and freezing it overnight =p im lost for what to do now

DO NOT FREEZE HARD DRIVES!!!! If the drive checked out, probably not a lot you are going to do about the noise, some drives are noisier than others. It could be a spindle issue, but nothing is going to fix that beyond replacing the drive. Nothing you can do to quiet a drive down. The problem with freezing is moisture can condense on the platters and heads and freeze into ice, when the heads hit the ice at 7200RMS somethings going to give, and about even odds it will be the head....

after the freezing the hard drive is still working =] wish i had never froze it now but thx anyway seems i only have 2 options
1. buy a new drive 2. buy those akasa hard drive noise damening things |
