WD External Drive

A few months ago I installed a Maxtor external drive 1 TB. It was factory set up so that it would back up a internal drive. At the time I must have installed the software that came with it. The prob i'am having is i dont need it to back up any files. i need it as addtional storage. I tried formating that drive and ended up screwing the drive to the point its unuseable. I then when out and bought a new wd drive sata 1 Tb to be used with blac x stand. I formated the drive no prob. then out of no where it tired to back up my drive. but it gives me a "delayed write failed" I tried looking up any software listed in the add- remove windows app but there is nothing listed for WD. i also did a search for anything WD. But nothing stood out. does anyone know how to put a stop so that the drive does not try to back up.

Wndows xp pro sp2

Re: WD External Drive

Check the services tab, the backup software from the Maxtor was definitely installed if you were backing up, and may be running as a service. On external drives it is always a good idea to disable delayed writes on the properties dialog of the disk - accessible from device manager
