Hard Drive Dying ?

Firstly !

Basically wondering if : Hitachi 250GB S/ATA Hard Drive
7200 RPM, 16Mb Cache, 3Year Warranty (Sorry no link)

will work with my system?

Motherboard: CPU Type DualCore Intel Core 2 Duo E6300 1866 MHz (7 x 267)
Motherboard: Name Asus P5N-E SLI
GFX : Nvidia 7800GT SLI x 2

Storage:
IDE Controller NVIDIA nForce 430/410 Serial ATA Controller
IDE Controller NVIDIA nForce 430/410 Serial ATA Controller
IDE Controller Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller
Storage Controller D347PRT SCSI Controller
Storage Controller JMicron JMB36X Controller

Disk Drive MAXTOR STM3250820AS (250 GB, 7200 RPM, SATA-II)
Disk Drive

Also my computers being randomly restarting + freezing a lot recently (not graphics cards over heating) Is this most likely a corrupt hard drive problem ? It also every like 5-10 seconds a weird buzzy noise comes from inside the pc, it sounds like something is over trying or having to pick up speed or something every 10 seconds. If I put my hand on the top of the pc it feels like its coming from the PSU but i'm just not sure. Would a dying psu explain random pc freezes, crashes and occasionly errors that mean I have to fresh install ?

Thanks

Re: Hard Drive Dying ?

The Hitachi should work in your system, but they do have a weird software way of setting them for Sata I operation if you have a Sata I type board, so I always stay with the Western Digital or Seagate drives. I just don't think Hitachi is in the same class as the better known drives I mentioned.

The freezing could be anything, but the power supply is suspect as is some other indicators. Please also list all your specs including video card and brand name and watts of your power supply.

You need to check the temps and voltages in the bios and report them back here.
