Re: New hard drive

you should be able to find them locally if you have an electronics or computer store. You can also go to the major online stores like amazon or best buy

Re: New hard drive

A 2.5 inch disk will fit the laptop. Since you have to replace it anyway, pull the old drive and look at the connector. Be aware however there may be an adapter you will need to remove from teh drive and attach to teh replacement.

Re: New hard drive

What is the make and model number of the drive you took out. Make sure there is not an adapter on the disk you pulled out that you will have to take of and use on the new drive. I assume the drive you pulled out is sata - using the connectors like on the left side of the image. The pins on the right are speed selector to force the drive to run at SATA1 speeds. I would guess the drive you pulled out was a Hitachi ( or IBM ) which uses a disk based config file to set that option. It will work with the pins also, provided the other connectors are a match

Re: New hard drive

I figured it was Hitachi ( used to be IBM ) when it didn't have the jumpers. This is a SATA1 ( 1.5GB/Sec ) drive so if you replace it with the WD you linked to above you will probably need to use a jumper to run it at SATA1 speed. The documentation you get with the drive, or that is available on line at the drive manufacturer's site will show you which two of the four pins you need to jumper. If you use a Hitachi without the jumper, you will need to download the utilities for that model to set the speed. So basically the drive you listed above will work when the jumper is installed.
