Why won't my computer play CDs or CD-ROMs?

My computer used to be able to read CDs and CD-ROMs but now it won't. It shows the little CD icon next to my cursor like it reads the CD at first but then nothing happens.

What happen if you open the cd drive in Windows Explorer with a disc in the drive?

Well, I don't know how to open it with Windows explorer.

Open My COmputer . . double click on the cd drive

It says please insert a disk into drive H:, But I have a CD in there.

My computer will read the Windows XP CD but not music CDs, DVDs, or Computer Game CD-ROMs.

The drive appears to be failing . . they are pretty cheap these days

Well it's playing CDs and CD-ROMs now, but not DVDs or or DVD-ROMs..
