[SOLVED] Disk read error
I have a problem accessing the c: drive on a computer. The drive is a Seagate 80GB ST3899 11A. On powering up the following message appears “ A disk read error has occurred” “Press Ctr+Alt+Del to restart” – this just brings it back to square one. The disk has XP Home installed
I have tried installing a good drive as master and the faulty drive as slave but the slave drive does not register although recognized in the BIOS. I have tried using fdisk from a DOS disk in A: but again the drive is not recognized. Is there a way round this or do I assume the disk is unusable? |

Re: Disk read error
Have you tried the disk manufacturer's utility called Seatools to see if it will help?

Re: Disk read error
Hi again
The Seatools did not actualy resolve the problem as it failed most of the test. It did however recognize the drive and from there I was able to do a basic format. Hopefully I can now partition it and reload windows XP Thanks again for your help |

Re: Disk read error
Might be a good idea to use the Seatools program to do the partition and format and then run the test again to make sure the drive is healthy before putting anything back on it.
