Accidently chose "Delete Partition" instead of "Import Foreign Disks" on 2nd hard drive in xp - but i did NOT format the drive. It only had 1 partition for the whole 1tb drive.
in TestDisk... under Analyze, Search & Deeper Search does not find any deleted partitions...would i make matters worse if i ADD a partition? OR under Advanced, it shows a partition of type "w2k dynamic/SFS"...should i chg the type to "HPFS - NTFS?" Last edited by justravis; 03-21-2009 at 01:56 PM. |

Re: TestDisk Search & Deep Search Can't Find Partition
Is this a USB drive? Testdisk can be a bit flakey on USB devices. I would not add a partition at this point. You could try partition find and mount and see if that can recover the partition.

Re: TestDisk Search & Deep Search Can't Find Partition
thank u..trying it now..
i'm also trying Active Partition Recovery a couple questions, will these programs identify a deleted partition when it scans the start of the partition or will it need to reach it's end as well? basically, i'm wondering if the program does find the partition after scanning 30% of the drive, will it at all? 2nd and POSSIBLY the dumbest question, processor & RAM-wise, running 2 of these programs should not be a problem, but based on the speed of drive or path between drive and processor, will running both be a problem? |

Re: TestDisk Search & Deep Search Can't Find Partition
Run one at a time, and be patient... recovery is nothing to rush or you will end up with a smoking wreck of data when you are done. Let hte programs run their course. Recovery can take quite a while when something as fundamental as the P-table is broken.... I've had drives that too inordinate amounts of time just to image, even before the actual recovery started.. like a solid week for a 13 GB drive :)

Re: TestDisk Search & Deep Search Can't Find Partition
Two possibilities, if it can repair the partition do that, if not then grab your data while you can - then I would zero wipe the drive with killdisk or d-ban and then repartition and reformat.

Re: TestDisk Search & Deep Search Can't Find Partition
It found and mounted it!!! Where's the repair feature?
Also, if i need to restart my computer to attach another hard drive. Will I need to find in order to mount again? Or will the partition still be mounted after i restart? THANKS AGAIN! I knew the data was there! Last edited by justravis; 03-21-2009 at 04:44 PM. |

Re: TestDisk Search & Deep Search Can't Find Partition
Hmmm Is there an option under actions to rewrite the p-table? If not then I'm thinking of some other software.. sheesh... When doing a recovery, rarely bother with the p-table rebuilds, we just go straight for the data and output it to a healthy disk....
