DST short test fail

My laptop has recently died on me and the dell website was of no use. Its an Inspiron 6400 and its running vista home premium.

It turns on and starts to boot, but then comes up with a black DOS screen saying : No Bootable Devices F1 to reboot etc.

I ran the PSA diagnostics and it came up with the error
Hard drive DST short test fail
Error code: 0141
msg error code 2000-0141
msg: no drive detected

i checked the hard drive after i took it out and it didn't look damaged.

I'm currently in Iraq so i don't have a Vista CD with me so does anyone have a solution to this problem.

Thanks in advance.

Re: DST short test fail

The message is telling you that some part of the Hard drive surface is flaky. Either replace the drive or create two Partitions and reinstall the Operating system. Which will be somewhat hard considering you don't have the Vista disk.
A consideration is to download a Linux live Cd and run it off the CD drive. i.e Puppy Linux.
