My computer has been running slower since I added 1000+ songs so I was used to it freezing/taking longer than usual. I was in the process of backing them up to a flash drive and freeing up space. While in the process my comp froze so I held down power button to shut down because task manager would not come up after I turned it back on it would not boot I tried system recovery and reinstalling xp and nothing worked. When trying to reinstall xp it says it cannot locate hard drive. Is there any solution or must i reluctantly buy a new hard drive
Also in the start up the following message appears windows failed to start because the following file is missing or corrupt windows/system32/... Blah blah. That's when I tried installing xp. I ran self diagnosis of hard drive and the quick scan passes but the comprehensive scan fails. The pc recovery did however back up all data and setting files so I know that the hard drive is not wiped. It seems it just will not run at start up Last edited by TriggerFinger; 03-20-2009 at 10:31 PM. |

Re: Compaq v5000 cannot find hard drive
What is the exact message?
I suggest (if you still can), back up all your files now. But how since you cannot boot from that hard drive? Pull the hard drive out of your PC (pc or laptop?) and hook it up in another computer (may be as a slave drive or via USB connection). If the other computer can still see your 'crashed' drive, may be you can still salvage your important files before that drive dies.
