Lacie Hard Drive Loud Fan

Hi.

I got a Lacie External Hard Drive 500GB Neil Poulton, and installed it in January.

In the last few weeks, after it being used for a couple hours the fan gets noticably louder. I usually just switch it off straight away and go back to it later in the day.

I wondering whether this is normal, and if I just leave the Hard Drive on for a while with the loud fan whether the sound will die down? (Too scared to try that incase something goes horribly wrong).

Help is much appreciated, thank you.

errrmmmm..... the units fanless, so if its making a lot of noise its the drive. Is the drive being accessed when its making the noise or is it just sitting idle?

Re: Lacie Hard Drive Loud Fan

Oh. It sounds like the fan on my laptop, so I automatically assumed.

The Hard Drive is on and being used when the noise starts, my music is played through it.

Re: Lacie Hard Drive Loud Fan

Sorry I've been in the midst of a load of work chaos over the last few days so its taken a while to get back to this.

I would guess if the noise your hearing sounds like a fan then its just the drive running full tilt, this fits with your description of the drives activity at the time. Shouldn't be anything to worry about.
