Hi Guys,
MAxtor 500 GB SATA installed and running under WinXP Sp3 with Mobo ECS A780GM-A. Everithing fine till one day when I switched on it did not boot and even entering BIOS Setup was taking some minutes. When in BIOS the drive did not show at all. After some restarts, I decided to use anothe HDD (Hitachi 500 GB) and everything went fine. Please can you tell me a way to recover my data from the old Drive. It's hurting me thinking that I lost my MP3 Collection :-(. I used to think that I was safe using partitions. Thanks in advance for your help |

Re: SATA fails and not reckognized by ECS A780GM-A
Partitions are like chapters in a book, lose the book, they all are gone. Is the old drive still spinning? Is it making any 'clicking' noises or other strange noises - grinding, screeching etc? Assuming it isn't making noise and spinning try r-studio or getdataback in demo mode and see which one of them does the best job finding your files. You can then register that one and recover your files to another disk. Both are less than $80.00 US

Download and try the hard drive manufacturer's utility and see if that helps. Some times they will recognize (and fix bad sectors) a drive when nothing else will:

You will need to open the case and determine if the noise is coming from the hard drive, or perhaps one of the cooling fans. Sounds more like a dying/dead HD. Verify where the noise is coming from, if from the HD, then it is time to replace it
