[SOLVED] MY Hard Drive shuts down my PSU
I am having a problem here. I have a brand new 1.5tb hard drive that isn't working right anymore. When i first bought it I hooked it up and it worked fine. A couple days later my computer shut down and wouldnt come back on unless I unhooked that hard drive. I thought it was the power supply so I just bought a brand new one, and still have the same problem. All of my other 3 hard drives work fine but when I have the 1.5tb one hooked up the psu shuts down 2 seconds after it is turned on. Anyone have any ideas or is the hard drive just shot?

Re: MY Hard Drive shuts down my PSU
Sorry I forgot to mention it is an internal Sata HD. It is brand new so I don't see how it could have gone bad already. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated.

Re: MY Hard Drive shuts down my PSU
Have you tried with the other 3 HDs disconnected ? It could be another device causing the issue also. I used the disconnect a drive at a time till it didn't hang procedure on my fiancee's machine a week or so ago after a similar shutdown right after power applied issue. This had been an increasing problem, machine would randomly shut down, several powerups were required to get it to restart... then it might run for a week before shutting down again. Anywho, after discoing one of her SATA drives, the machine remained powered, just no video - four blown caps on the video card explained that one. replaced vid card reconnected HD and all is well. The drive itself may be normal current draw, but that normal draw could just be the current draw that puts it over the edge while another component is pulling excessive current. Did that make sense?? You are on the right track trouble shooting, now is the time to play devil's advocate and see if there is another component that allows the system to start up with that drive in place...
