OH NO! Toshiba 1.8" Zif type hard drive Not Detected
Im currently trying to recover data from a 30gb zif-type (tiny ribbon) toshiba drive. I went out and purchased a 1.8” Toshiba zif external hard drive enclosure. I received it in the mail and connected the drive, plugged it in and it was detected as an external drive, the driver was automatically installed but no drive letter showed up. I checked out disk management in administration tools and it showed the drive as unformatted and inactive (but it did show the proper size (30gb, so the drive was definitely accessed).
So I assumed that the pc (running vista) was not detecting a file system. I decided that I would need to run some sort of recovery software to get the data. I didn't want to leave it plugged in while researching the issue so I removed the drive via the 'safely remove hardware' icon on the task bar and unplugged the drive. Ever since then, whenever I plug the drive into a computer, I can hear the drive spin up and the light comes on in the enclosure but nothing is detected by the computer. I have tried plugging it into 3 separate systems, running both windows vista and windows xp. I've tried different usb cords but still get nothing, the drive is not detected at all anymore. Does anyone have any suggestions? Also, anyone have a clue as to what would be the best way to recover data from an old sony camcorder hard drive? Thanks in advance for the help.
