bad HD?
Im currently building a computer using parts i had laying around, im trying to use a 100GB seagate HD that i had but i cant seem to get it to work. After windows kept freezing when i tried to install i tried to do a format from DOS, and when i do i get the error message "invalid media or track 0 bad hard drive". So i ran fdisk to check the partitions and there are none on it, when i try to create one it just sits at 0% on the verifying drive integrity, also about every 45 seconds the HD makes a wierd click noise, which it was also doing when it froze at the windows install.

Re: bad HD?
Since you are going to install an OS On it, why don't you set your boot order in the bios to:
CDRom - 1st Floppy - 2nd (if any) Hard Drive - 3rd Be sure to save before you exit... Then, when you start up with the OS disk in the CD drive, you should be able to partition and format this drive from the install OS disk. If you did all that and it still fails, then download the Seatools utility from the drive manufacturer's website and let the utility check the drive and then format the drive from the utility and see if that helps. Re: bad HD?
Ok i downloaded the seatools for DOS and i tried testing the drive with that, it failed the short test right away, it ran the long test for about 40 min and got to about 75%, then it failed it when it reached 100 errors, and it will not repair any of them. And when i try to do any type of erase it says the drive is not responding to commands and fails the erase.

Re: bad HD?
BCCOMP is correct as usual. Looks like this drive has gone to the great beyond!
