Seagate 1.5 TB SATA Baracuda drive not recognized

Hello,
I just bought a seagate 1.5TB SATA Baracuda drive. I have an ECS KT600-A motherboard with VIA VT8237 chipset. The Bios is AWARD BIOS. I updated the BIOS and also installed the latest driver for the VIA. But after I plug in the drive I do not see it in Windows (disk manager). When I went to the device manager, I see it says VIA SATA RAID Controlled with an exclamation mark. It says that the device was not able to start (code 10). So what should I do. I also tried to use jumper (in all three different positions possible) on the HD to see if that would work, but that did not help either. What am I doing wrong? Please help.....

Re: Seagate 1.5 TB SATA Baracuda drive not recognized

the exclamation mark means you need a driver ............ however I think you have another problem on the horizon ............ your motherboards sata / raid controller is a Sata-I (150 mb/sec) spec .......... the drive you bought is a Sata-II spec which means 300 mb/sec the drive will need to be jumpered for the sata-I spec ........ but sata drives dont seem to have the Sata-I jumper anymore ............ most likely you will need to either find a new hard drive which is Sata-I capable or buy a Sata-II controller card for your PC ?

at the top of this forum there is a "sata controller sticky"

Re: Seagate 1.5 TB SATA Baracuda drive not recognized

the Seagate HD does have Jumper to force 150. I tried all the three settings possible, but that did not solve the problem. I have already updated the driver, so that should not be a problem either, right?

Re: Seagate 1.5 TB SATA Baracuda drive not recognized

no more yellow exclamation marks ?

does your motherboards sata controller support independent drives or just raid configurations ? you will need to download the manual for your motherboard and verify

most raid controllers have a software package which (intel accelerator) which may or may not assit you in standalone drive operation ..........

have you looked in yoru bios under "intergrated peripherals" and verify your raid controller is set to "enabled"

you should be a "raid controller bios screen appear during boot-up are you seeing this ?

Re: Seagate 1.5 TB SATA Baracuda drive not recognized

adding a pci slot sata controller may be a much easier venture for you rather than fighting with your onboard ............ I suspect its not the type for standalone sata drive use ?

Re: Seagate 1.5 TB SATA Baracuda drive not recognized

Still the yellow exclamation mark.... The only setting in BIOS is to enable or disable the on-board SATA. It is marked enabled. I am not sure about the RAID controller BIOS screen....On few fourms I see folks mentioning F5 or F6...so let me try that and see where it takes me....

Thanks for help....any more input will be appreciated.

is your sata drive cable pulled into the Sata 0 connector on the mobo ?

is the drive seen in boot device priority in the bios ? that is the very first step

Re: Seagate 1.5 TB SATA Baracuda drive not recognized

the menu structure is:

BIOS > Integrated Peripherals > OnChip IDE Device > SATA Mode >
[select mode]

while my BIOS has:

BIOS > Integrated Peripherals > OnChip IDE Device > OnChip SATA Decive
> [Enabled/Disabled]

It's currently set to enabled.

Re: Seagate 1.5 TB SATA Baracuda drive not recognized

I do not know which connector is the Sata 0, so I have tried both...but still the same issue.

I do not see the drive in boot device priority in the BIOS. This is the problem which is causing me to see the yellow exclamation....so the question is how to fix this?

Re: Seagate 1.5 TB SATA Baracuda drive not recognized

I have it same as yours.....Do not have that "SATA Mode" option....just have that "OnChip SATA Device" > [Enable/Disable]

Re: Seagate 1.5 TB SATA Baracuda drive not recognized

if your bios successfully flashed ......... which it has or you wouldnt have been able to use the system .......... is fine ........... not your problem

when you install the driver ............... are you doing this from within device manager / raid controller / right click on the controller and seelct properties / then select update driver / then browse to where that file is located ?
