Re: I can't make a new partition

Might be a corrupted part in your hard drive that it can't get past. I've had that come up on a HD for me before, but it was an old 40GB one that was halfway shot to hell anyway.

Run a chksdk and see what it can fix.

Before you do anything backup important data...
Test your HDD...
Check make/model of your HDD...
Visit manufacturers Web Site, download diagnostic tools and test your HDD for possible bad sectors...

Re: I can't make a new partition

Don't run chkdsk on failing drives... I know, that is what it is supposed to fix, but not a good idea. Use the manufacturers diag to fix blad blocks. Chkdsk only adds the block to the OS ignore list, the manufacturers will know how to add it to the g-list, the hardware based bad block list.

Re: I can't make a new partition

Download .iso file to your desktop...
Rename file to be just Hutil210.iso [remove content in brackets]
If you have Nero installed, double click on .iso file and file will be automatically imported in Nero and burn it...
If you have some other burning software, find options to burn an image or .iso file...

Re: I can't make a new partition

if the drive has bad sectors .......... chances are more will appear and at a faster rate ........ smart money says back-up any data off the drive you may need necessary and begin drive shopping

there is no "cure" for bad sectors ............some programs will just map them as bad so they arent used in the future ........ but thats not a "fix"

Re: I can't make a new partition

8 bad sectors isn't bad at all - unless - those 8 bad sectors suddenly came up at the same time. I'm surprised the samsung util doesn't remap bad blocks.. but usually till I see the drive it is beyond a simple mark the blocks bad and move on. You can try mhdd and amke bad downlaoable from teh files sections of www.hddguru.com. read the docs first. These two will mark bad secotrs as bad and remap them. wil not recover the dta from teh bad secotrs, will just make sure they don't get used again. Kind of like reading the page of a book that has been burned, just ain't gonna happen!. A certain number of bad blocks on a drive is normal, and 8 bad blocks on a 232 GB isn't bad at all. the dirty little secret is almost every drive built hasd some bad sectors before it leaves the factory, they are just mapped to the spare sectors on the drive.
