HDD mainly only works after its warmed up
I have an old 120/Gb H/D that I would like to use but it usually needs to have been run for 10 mins before Cmos detects it and allows the O/S to load.
When it is eventually detected you can re-start or do most other H/D activities with no problems. I have run Seagates latest Diognostic utility and it reports the drive as being totally OK after its decided to get detected and before detection it reports "No drive found" and asks you to check power and jumpers which I have done. When I first revived the drive I used a utility from UBCD to overwrite and delete the data afterwhich I partioned 20Gb NTFS and installed the O/S. The info on the Segate Diog utility sayes something like if you do a "delete whole drive with zeros" routine this sometimes revives old drives but I think I have already done this with UBCD?? I think maybe thers something going wrong with the drive electronics and maybe I need to re install some firmwhere. ???

Re: HDD mainly only works after its warmed up
Have you considered changing your ribbon cable? Those things can cause all kinds of problems when they begin to not work properly.
