My HDD is taking over my computer!!
Here is the issue. I have a WD raptor 150gig, and seagate barracuda 500 gb hard drive. The raptor is acting up. I am pretty sure it is failing. I have formatted it and there is nothing on the drive. I was forced to put Vista 64 on the 500 gb. So Windows on the 500gb nothing on the 150gb. Now to the issue.
Windows freezes after about an hour or two, and I know it is because of the 150gb hdd. Take it out you would say, but there is a catch. My system will only start if both hdds are installed. AND windows will not allow me to access or format the 150gb drive. I know this is the problem because a couple days ago I had the 500gb only installed and the system ran fine. When I try to boot with just the 500gb hooked up it gets to a screen where it says something about "Nvidia boot agent" and it goes through some Mac address crap, and then eventually says something along the lines of "unable to boot" or "no boot file could be named" With both drives hooked up it boots right to windows, and windows runs great for about 2 hours. Windows is installed on the 500gb, and on that drive only. Any ideas? |

Re: My HDD is taking over my computer!!
You installed windows to the 500 GB drive with the other drive in place and the bootloader for Vista was written to the 150 GB drive since it was considered drive0 ( the first drive on the PC ). Are these SATA or IDE drives? The solution is to take out the 150 and reinstall windows, everything will go to the 500.

Re: My HDD is taking over my computer!!
Both HDs were installed. I chose the 500 gb. Formatted both drives, installed windows on the 500gb. They are both SATA and as far as I know the placement of them, whether it is drive0-6 means nothing for how it is read with SATA. I know master and slave are not recognized.
I will try another install of windows, but now I have to find a new disk windows puts the install limitations on them. |
