Adding a third SATA hard drive to an existing RAID-0 setup
Hello all, new to the forum and have a quick question. I have an existing RAID 0 setup (2 74 GB WD Raptors) and I want to add a third hard drive to store data. My obviously RAID 0 is fast as we all know, but if one drive dies the whole partition is toast so I want to put my important files, pictures, etc on this other internal hard drive. My MOBO is an ASUS P5N-E which can support 4 SATA drives. The RAID drives are plugged into channels 1 and 2 and the new drive is plugged into 3. When I try to boot with the third hard drive connect the computer says there's a problem with the RAID array and won't boot. I went into the boot menu and it looks like it's only seeing the first drive of the RAID array. Any ideas? I tried looking around in boot options and the MOBO setup page, but I didn't see anything that I thought might be useful. I don't particularly want to experiment b/c I haven't moved all of those useful and important files off the RAID array just yet and don't want to lose them. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

Re: Adding a third SATA hard drive to an existing RAID-0 setup
Hi,
Welcome to TSF. Normally in the boot menu only one drive, which represents the array, is displayed. Did you check the hard drive boot priority to make sure the Raid Array is first. Sometimes when a new drive is added, the priority is changed. Paul
