External Drive Won't Stay On

I have spent the last few days putting a bunch of music on an external 41G Deskstar. This afternoon the drive started shutting off randomly, and I figured it was the enclosure. I just got back from Fry's with a brand new enclosure, and the same thing happens. When I hit the on button, the drive spins up and is recognized, but it always shuts off after about 15 seconds. Sometimes it will start to spin up again, but never fully. Please let me know if more info would be helpful.

Re: External Drive Won't Stay On

What type of connection is your external HDD? Firewire or USB? I am thinking USB and if so, try plugging it to another USB port.

Re: External Drive Won't Stay On

Thanks for answering.

It is USB, so I tried 3 different ports and a different cable. Still no change.
