Problems with my Western Digital
Hi! A while back I purchased a 500GB WD hard drive from Best Buy to use with my Toshiba Satellite laptop. I got it, installed, put files on it, everything works marvelously. About a month or so has gone by, and my first problem has sprouted up and I'm not sure how to go about fixing it.
It seems that whenever I go into the hard drive and try to right click a file or folder, it takes FOREVER. I averaged it taking about 15-20 seconds every time I right click ON a file or folder. I can right click inside the hard drive (as in right clicking when nothing is selected) and the menu pops up immediately with no problem. What could be causing this? At first I thought it was just the computer, but right click on everything else works alright, just files that were in the folder. Which brings me to my one last, confusing point. If I move (cut or copy) a file or folder from the WD and paste it anywhere on the Toshiba's HD (for instance, cut file "blah.txt" from WD and paste into Desktop), it STILL takes forever to right-click where I pasted it! What's the deal? It only recently started doing this and its truly cumbersome. If anybody can offer any guidance it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much! |

Re: Problems with my Western Digital
I would as a pre-caution back-up the data on the drive .............. use drive image XML (free) check out the "drive image youtube" tutorial = goggle
its easy to use then I suggest you run the hard drive manufacturers bootable DOS diagnostic utility on the drive to verify the mechanical condition of the drive >>>>>>>>>>>>> keep us posted with your progress
