Confused Maxtor Basics Drives Stop Internet

I have 2 Maxtor External Hard Drives, a 500GB and a 640GB

How I connect to the internet:
Service Provider: AOL (but I dont use the AOL browser, I use firefox)
Browsers I use: Firefox 3 (Default), IE7
Conection: Wireless Connection using a belkin Wireless USB Adapter

If either of the Maxtor drives are connected to the computer when I try to use the internet, in Firefox I get "Page Load Error - Address Not Found" and in Internet Explorer I get "Internet Explorer Cannot Load The Web Page".
If I disconnect the drives, The page loads straight away after pressing refresh.

This still happens if only one Maxtor drive is connected.

as I wish to keep them connected to the computer AND use the internet, how can I stop this from happening?

** I have included a screen shot of the message as displayed in Firefox 3 if anyone needs to see it **
