[SOLVED] Dell lattitude pin connector
Recently, my hardrive went out on a Dell Lattitude c800.
I ordered a wd scorpio from new egg, matched type drive ATA6 type. My problem is the original pin connector has the 2 pins all the way on the left setback about 1/4 inch and actually blocked by the caddy so they don't really connect at all. The new drive has all the pins straight across, the 2 pins on the left are not set back. As you may be able to tell, I know next to nothing about this stuff. What do I need to do to get the correct drive and pin arrangement for the c800. Thanks, Will Groff |

Re: Dell lattitude pin connector
If you look on the old drive, there should be a diagram on the back (or top) telling you what the pin settings have the drive set as. Then, look at the new drive and there should be a diagram on the back (or top) telling you how you need to set it to be like the old drive.

Re: Dell lattitude pin connector
Thanks for the response.
The original one seems to have an extender type connector on all the pins except the 2 that are back set, is it possible that this should be removed and placed on the new one? this would make everything line up correctly in the caddy as well. I don't want to go pulling on it if I'm mistaken. On the old one, if i look with a magnifying glass, the black extender says: 48kpa foxconn. Will |

Re: Dell lattitude pin connector
Holy smokes, it pulled right off easily. Can't believe it was so simple. Now I'll slide it on the new one and give it a try.
Thanks for taking the time to help out, greatly appreciated. I even had my rma# all set to send back, whew! regards and thanks, will |
