full C: drive????

i just got my computer sent away and just got it back a couple days ago. apparently a new hard drive had to be put in it. anyways, thats not my problem. it seemed to be working fine until i realized that i was running out of room on my C: drive. so i checked to see what kind of stuff i had in there and i counted up the files and all together i had about 20 gigs of stuff. thing is im suppose to be able to hold 48.8 gigs. now i dont know a whole lot about computers but something isnt quite right.

Here is how to post a screenshot:

To get to your C: drive

Start>MY Computer>Right Click on C: Drive> Properties

You should see a window that looks like this (See Attachment)

It is full
Have you done a disk cleanup and defrag?

Also open the C: Drive
Edit>Select all
Go to File>Properties

Tell me what is on the drive.

Re: full C: drive????

HI Josh,
See my previous post.
I had edited it.

I see you got the disk cleanup.
To defrag go to the Tools Tab and select Defrag.

Thanks,
Bill

Re: full C: drive????

when i selected them all and went to properties it says theres over 30 gigs in the c drive. i had just went to each individually and looked to see what was there and it didnt add up. still not quite sure whats taking up so much room. i had much more free space before i sent it away. maybe they gave me a smaller hard drive or something

Re: full C: drive????

Defrag will relocate files that are not used as often and place them at the rear of the Harddrive. The files you use most will be placed to the front of the drive.
This helps the PC perform better.

Vista it self requires almost 15GB of free HD space:

Re: full C: drive????

then i must have been given a smaller hard drive because i certainly had no problem with space before this and i had a lot of music and videos.

Re: full C: drive????

According to your Screenshot you have a what would be considered a 60GB HD.
Your actual usage on this drive is 48.8GB
Do not get confused that you should have 60GB. Manufactures consider rounding these drives off.

How much GB do you have for documents and such.
Again go to MY Documents>Select All Go to File>Properties.
Post what it states.
