Installed New HDD now want a restore from DVD's

My hdd went bad so it was replaced. Luckely I backed up my files using Vistas back-up and restore center. Now, how do I get those dvd's back onto my new HDD? Every time I try to restore it doesnt recognize that I completed a back-up cause of the new HDD installed. Is it just copy and paste? or is there a program that will run the discs? If it's copy and paste, do I keep over writing the same files that keep coming up or adding them?

Re: Installed New HDD now want a restore from DVD's

Thank you for the reply!

The problem is I used DVD's to do a complete PC back-up and now when I try to restore it isnt recognizing the dvd drive. It keeps popping up a window that says, "Windows was not able to find any back-up sets on F:\. Please select a different location." the only other location it gives me is Network. I also tried from the last disc first and the first disc first.

Any help would be appreciated I would hate to have to complete Company of Heroes all over again

Re: Installed New HDD now want a restore from DVD's

my gut feeling is you didnt select the image process ..... but file process instead when you made your DVD's ................ if that was an image set ...... a program would be launching to get you thru the dvd's

when you browse these dvd disks on another computer ........ do you see actual files or do yo see things like :

bits and pieces of individual files from the "guts" of an image ? in other words ...... the fiels on your dvd disks .... can they be opened and viewed on another computer ?

Re: Installed New HDD now want a restore from DVD's

Thank you again for your response, this site has always helped me in the past.

I put the 1st disc into another computer and tried to open the files and get a message,

"The XML page cannot be displayed" It also says, " Cannot view XML input using XSL style sheet. Please correct the error and then click Refresh button, or try again later." Then is says, " A name was started with an invalid character. Error process resource'file:///E:/WindowsImageBackup/RobsSony-PC/Backup 2..."

Re: Installed New HDD now want a restore from DVD's

when you made the disks did you label them in order ....... you may need to start from disk one ????????// I am sorry but I have never used that feature ......... I am very experienced with image programs but not the one included in windows vista ............ I will continue to keep trying to find info

one of my esteemed collegues says:

I think you have to launch the restore by booting from the Vista installation disk and choosing complete restore from the menu> http://www.zdnet.com.au/insight/soft...9272295,00.htm
