Disk Boot Failure when i try to boot my new Sata HD.

k so i had an old ide HD and i bought and plugged in my new SATA hd. (the sata cable to the mobo and the power cord from the power supply.)

the sata drive is in channel 1..and i unplugged the old one...and i get disk boot failure.

but it does work if i have both plugged in. still asks me which to boot from and i boot from the new one.

only reason i want the old one out is cuz whenever i try to install anything from cd-rom my comp freezes..i install it to d drive too(my new sata HD).

i have XP on both drives. and ive booted from both drives. it gives me an option which one i want to boot from.

but it wont get to that screen if my old IDE hd isnt plugged in.

Re: Disk Boot Failure when i try to boot my new Sata HD.

The first drive is still the 'boot drive' The new drive is the system drive for the new install of of XP. The windows boot files are loaded onto the the first drive. They execute, then pass control to the windows install you selected in the boot.ini menu. Best solution would be to remove the first drive then reinstall windows to recreate the boot files on the new disk.

Re: Disk Boot Failure when i try to boot my new Sata HD.

What motherboard do you have? Do you have the Sata set to operate as IDE in the bios? Do you have the hard drive priority set in the bios so the drive you want to boot from is listed FIRST?
