So, I loaded Vista 64 onto the new machine.
EVGA X58 Motherboard WD Velociraptor 300GB 2-Seagate 500GB in RAID-0 After starting the Vista install, it comes to the drive selection screen. It sees the WD, but not the RAID. Of course after loading the JMicron drivers off the disk it now sees the 1TB RAID drive. I select the WD as the install drive, complete the install, all is well. Except when I open My Computer...no second drive there, just the WD. I've tried turning the SATA mode in the bios to RAID and IDE, no luck on either. The bios sees the drive, the JMicron bios shows the drive loading during the post screen, but Vista is not picking it up after the install completes. Any ideas? |

Re: Vista doesn't see backup RAID drive
Are there vista drivers for the J-Micron Raid? I was playing with a couple old IDE raid cards yesterday and with both a rocket raid and promise raid, had to add the drivers to XP before the drives would be recognized.

Re: Vista doesn't see backup RAID drive
I think I've narrowed the problem down. The JMicron does have drivers, which I installed during the initial Vista install and after doing so the installer did see the drive.
The ICH10R chip also supports raid, and I wasn't plugged into those ports, so I switched and set the raid drive up with the windows chipset. The problem comes in when I change the SATA setting in the bios from IDE to RAID. Vista BSOD's during the little green loading bar screen. As soon as I switch it back to IDE, it boots fine but wont see the drive. I'm at a loss as to what could be causing the BSOD by having SATA set to RAID. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. |

Re: Vista doesn't see backup RAID drive
What Raid level is it using? If it's raid 0 or 5 and you installed as single drives, then the data is probably being read in stripes and sent to Windows as bad data. The settings to run should be the same settings as used to install the OS. If it's Raid 1 then it really shouldn't matter. You can't make a striped type raid out of disks with existing data.
