partition hard drive

Here is my problem, I'm running vista ultimate. Great OS but will not allow me to install adobe flash.I'm trying to partition my drive with powerquest partitionmagic pro 8, to istall XP ultimate. I'm referencing my old partition as C: & my new as D: but when I proceed it states

"It is very unlikely C: drive letter changed.Furthermore, changing paths that include C: will most likely cause wide spead failures.

Are you sure you want to change C; partition?"

Can I get some help to know what to do,please.

Re: partition hard drive

Is that version of PartitionMagic compatible with Vista? Even tho XP and Vista both use NTFS, the partition tables are VERY different. Vista supposedly maintains the MBR style partition table as well as its GUID partition table, but there may be somedifferences the software doesn't recognize. Also the boot loader for Vista seems to cause some issues in dual booting if Vista is installed as the first OS. Verify Part Magic will handle disks created in Vista.

Re: partition hard drive

I spoke with this IT guy who told me he has not heard of a partitioning tool which is compatable with vista. But he did suggest to reinstall os which will give you the option to partition during installation.
