Sony CD-RW CRX217E
I have a Dell Dimension 3000 with XP operating system and a Sony CD-RW CRX217E drive. Recently the disc drive has stopped reading discs placed in the drive. I have tried uninstalling and installing the Sony disc drive and have had no luck. Any ideas of what I can do to get my Sony disc drive to run properly?

Try a cleaning disk first to see if the lens is dirty. Also check and make sure the data cable is connected correctly. Have you added any new hardware? Beyond that, if the drive is actually spinning not too much else I know to do other than replace the drive.
