hey everyone, i have a bit of a problem. I order a harddrive through 3btech.net, it is a ide hd from magnetic data technologies. when i try to install a fresh copy of windows, i go through all the jazz, press f8 for the user agreement, but when i get to the screen to choose my partition i get cannot access disk, i'm not sure if its a bad hd or a bad sector since bios dectects it. i don't have a floppy to creat a boot disk from so any suggestions will be helpful.

Re: Hard drive help
Hello there...
First thing you should check are jumpers... Do you have any other devices on IDE cable with HDD, or you are using HDD only on one IDE cable??? Second, enter BIOS and check if HDD is visible... Third thing [if you see HDD in BIOS] what is make/model of your HDD??? Visit manufacturers Web Site, download testing tools and test your HDD for possible bad sectors... Keep us posted... |

Re: Hard drive help
well, i tried jumpers on both c/s and master, the other part of the cable are connected to the cd and dvd burners. i do see the hdd in bios and the hdd is from magnetic data technologies, model md02000-bjbw. is their another way i can make a boot disk with out using a floppy. the site only allows that.

Re: Hard drive help
Use this tool:
http://hddguru.com/content/en/software/2005.10.02-MHDD/ I am personally using this tool and it is awesome... Burn ISO image on CD, boot with this tool... It will load MHDD interface... Choose number where is your HDD and hit enter... Type 'Scan' and hit Enter... Hold 'Ctrl' and hit Enter one more time... It will scan HDD. You can see on interface if there are some slow or bad sectors... Just remember that this tool can not see slave drives, so make sure HDD is set to master... Keep us posted... |

Re: Hard drive help
When you say the other part of the cable, the same ribbon cable is on the CD/DVD? Or another Ribbon cable. Sounds like you are trying to attach to the Secondary IDE cable, try master on teh primary IDE cable.
