Ok, im clueless as to what type of SATA this is ... or if its even a SATA. I got this HDD out of my girlfriends laptop, and it wont spin up, or read. i'll just buy a new one, but i have to know what kind first.

Re: What type of SATA is this?
I'm not familiar with laptop drives either, but I think you'll have much more luck just looking at the laptop's specs on the manufacturer's site. What make and model is it?
Another thing to look at is the label on the drive. What's the model number? |

Re: What type of SATA is this?
i tried the make and model number, but all i can find is the standard laptop SATA pin type. im starting to think that the HDD is only for that type of laptop, and if i cant find The same HDD, that's not gonna be good

Re: What type of SATA is this?
It's a compaq or HP laptop i'm guessing.
You need to pull the adapter from the laptop as well. It goes from the pins on the mainboard to the socket on the hard drive.

Re: What type of SATA is this?
the laptop is this right here and there is no adapter on the mainboard. The laptop is and older model, it's the V6105RN and its not listed. I think i might just go in to best buy, but last time i went there looking for a SATA power adapter, (4pin to sata) the guy tried to sell me a new HDD and had no idea what a SATA HDD was. i also looked on Newegg for the hard drive, but they list the same model number as a standard SATA. (and i looked at the pics too) So im at a loss...
