some files wont open
i have a Wd 320gb external passport drive
When i load files on to it, they will open fine on the computer i load them from, but when i try to open the same file from a different computer, it says the file or directory is Not Accessible, Access denied. but it's not protected at all?? Any ideas how to fix this? Running XP on an Acer Aspire One, but it happens on several different desk top aswell. |

Re: some files wont open
That sounds like you have to take ownership, but that usually happens with an internal drive moved to a different computer, I've never had it happen with any of my externals. Anyway, give this microsoft knowledgebase article a read and see if that does the trick.

Re: some files wont open
It sounds like the external device is formatted NTFS, so when moved to another PC the users listed in teh security access control list for the files don't exist. If security is not an issue then you can set permissions on the security tab of the folders conatining these files to allow full control to the user named everyone. Should fix it when moved, right click dir -> security then add user. You will have to do this on the pc that created the files...
